Sunday’s are great until right about now, when reality sets in and the work week awaits very soon. Oh well, I say bring it, Monday!
To rewind, Sunday in NYC was as hot, humid and gross as Saturday. Luckily, I only had 5 slow recovery miles on the bridle path planned. The run went fine, except for the yellow crime scene tape and police vehicles that greeted me and my fellow runners on the path. I knew it wasn’t a Law & Order episode (the original is dunzo, SVU I think has wrapped for the season), and sure enough I learned on the news that there had been as assault late last night. I always feel pretty safe in CP (and obviously don’t run at 3:00 a.m.), but this is a good reminder to be careful, runners!
After my usual breakfast, coffee and laundry, I traveled across town to meet my good friend Darby for a girlie afternoon of lunch and the Sex and the City 2 movie. For lunch, we decided on Gina La Fornarina, a cute little Italian spot that has both Upper East and Upper West locations. Good thing I’m not here to write about the service, because it sucked 🙂 The food, however, was delicious. I enjoyed a grilled panini with brie, roasted red pepper and artichoke with a side of mixed greens.
This was a weird choice for me, not being the biggest cheese fan, but I was pleasantly surprised with the dish. It really hit the spot, and kind of reminded me of an upscale grilled cheese.
We made it to the movie just in time (per usual 🙂 ), and I have to say, it wasn’t as bad as we had heard. Darby and I enjoyed the movie for what it was (great clothes, cheesy random fun) and enjoyed some Trader Joe’s Nuts for Raspberries and Chocolate trail mix.
We wandered around a local street fair before I headed home to have some dinner (welcome back, appetite!) and chill out. Dinner was some chopped up bell peppers, carrots and 1/2 of a whole wheat pita with hummus, grilled ground turkey, cucumbers, tomatoes and a romaine mix.
I really wanted to do some cooking and baking this weekend, but I refused to go near my oven/stove until the heat subsided. Next weekend, guys!
Tomorrow is a scheduled XT day at the gym, but I already can’t wait for a nice, cool run on Tuesday morning.
The rest of my night will probably involve some snacking on leftover banana chocolate chip bread, catching up on my DVR and convincing myself that the “shadow” I just saw in my kitchen was indeed just a shadow and not some sort of furry intruder (yep, love NYC apartments…). Good night, all!
Question: How do you stay safe when you run?
Question: Would you go back to a restaurant with awful service but good food?
