I think the running Gods have answered all of our whining, wimpering, begging for an end prayers about the heat/humidity – the past two days have been SO BEAUTIFUL (and cool!). My early a.m. runs have been cool and stellar:
Wednesday: 7.0 miles with 4×3 minutes at ~4M race pace
Thursday: 7.5 easy miles (~8:40/mile pace)
As I neared the end of my 7 miler yesterday morning, a thought popped into my head with force: “Today is going to be a great day.” I don’t know where it came from, but it kind snapped me out of the funk I’ve been in lately (too much stress/work, too little play). My response to this thought was kind of like: “DUH – of course it’s going to be a great day. It’s beautiful out, you just had a great run, and you’ll carry this with you throughout the day.” And that was that – I had a great day. 🙂 Oh, positive thinking.
Yesterday I also managed to snag some organic strawberries on sale at Whole Foods, which went fabulously with my cereal combo of Kashi Heart to Heart and Nature’s Path Optimum Blueberry Cinnamon with almond milk this morning:
I don’t think I’ll ever tire of cereal as long as I live, and I’ve been enjoying it with almond milk for a while now. Contradictory research makes me a little iffy about soy milk, and for some reason I’m not the biggest fan of cow’s milk (but bring on the yogurt!). Almond Breeze is my go-to choice for milk.
I like the original flavor (still fairly sweet and nutty), and the nutrition is comparable to other milks with a few exceptions – calories are lower (woo!), protein is also a bit low (boo!). It’s fortified with calcium and vitamin D, which is excellent. One cup packs:
- 60 calories
- 2.5 g fat (all unsaturated “good” fats)
- 150 mg sodium
- 180 mg potassium
- 8 g carbohydrates (1 g fiber, 7 g sugar)
- 1 g protein
- 30% DV of calcium
- 25% DV of vitamin D
- 50% DV of vitamin E
Almond milk is sold at most grocery stores these days, and although it’s a bit more expensive than cow’s milk, I suggest giving it a try if you want to mix things up a bit!
Anywho, today was the last full day of work this week and I absolutely cannot wait until the long weekend. Lunch and dinner were still enjoyed at my desk today, but not again for a while 🙂
Natural PB & raspberry jelly on whole wheat, Stonyfield plain yogurt, cherries
Usual salad with roasted sweet potatoes, grilled chicken, greens, goat cheese, sweet pepper and carrots
Here’s an interesting shot I took during a quick trip outside this afternoon:
Happy almost-holiday weekend!
Question: What’s your favorite kind of milk (almond, soy, rice, cow’s)?
