It is seriously hot as balls out (sorry, mom). But it is. When I got up at 5:30 a.m., it was already 86 degrees with a side of generous humidity. Ew. Still, I headed out for 7 miles in Central Park. The keys to my survival?
And a very slow pace. This run seemed to last Until the End of Time, but I made it through at about ~40 seconds per mile slower than the same route/distance last week. Ah well. Luckily, there were a surprising amount of other crazy runners (and bikers!) suffering through the muck as well.
Hydration and breakfast played a key role in the rest of my morning.
Kashi Heart to Heart/Nature’s Path Optimum Blueberry Cinnamon, organic strawberries, almond milk
I made it to work without melting into a complete puddle on the subway platform and vowed not to venture out again until the evening. Maybe I’m a wimp?
The usual lunch followed a busy morning – natural PB/raspberry jelly on whole wheat, organic cherries, Greek yogurt (no photo – you’ve seen it all before).
My company moved our office location from Midtown East to the Flatiron District last year, and it was a 100% improvement if you ask me (mostly from a food perspective). Here are a few reasons why I love it down here:
- Madison Square Park
- Whole Foods Union Square (~8 minute walk)
- Union Square Greenmarket (Mon., Weds, Fri, Sat)
- Lower Fifth Avenue Shopping
- Washington Square Park (~12 minute walk)
And a few new reasons:1). Trader Joe’s Chelsea (opening on July 12)
Since the UES is deprived of Whole Foods and TJ’s (whyyyy???), being in such close proximity during the workday is like a dream come true (weird, yes I am).
2). Eataly (opening in September)
Eataly NYC is the brainchild of Mario Batali, Joe and Lydia Bastianich and promises to be a gourmet food market (similar to Zabar’s, they say) along with multiple restaurants specializing in fish, pasta, vegetables, meat, etc. So, definitely something for everyone 🙂 This massive emporium is 30 seconds away from my desk, so chances are I’ll be visiting a lot. Which would make for much more exciting desk-side meals than this:
Bell peppers, carrots, hummus, greens, cucumber, tomato, ground turkey and 1/2 a whole wheat pita
But for now, it’ll do 🙂
Hope everyone is staying safe in this weather – check out NYRR’s tips for running in the heat.
