There’s nothing better than spending time with old friends, celebrating milestones (yay, weddings!) and livin’ it up. So, while I’m friggin’ exhausted from this weekend’s festivities, I must say:
It was so worth it.
My stellar weekend started with about ~13.25 miles in Central Park and Riverside Park. The weather was gorgeous – upper 60’s, low humidity and decent cloud cover – another great long run in the books!
My pace was fairly steady throughout this run – about 9:15/mile. I really want to start taking advantage of these “shorter” long runs and work on my speed, and while I did some strides at the end of this one, next time I want to try more of a fast finish or middle tempo, like speedy runner/blogger Sarah outlines here.
Soon after the run and some laundry, it was time to travel down to Philly for my pal Meghan’s bachelorette party. Meghan and I experienced many-a-shenanigans together during college in Boston, and I seriously heart her. Fellow partner in crime, Amy, and Meg’s sis Erin joined, among others.
Dinner was at Buddakan – I’ve never been to the NYC location, so this was exciting.
It certainly did not disappoint. A bunch of us shared a GINORMOUS Crispy Calamari Salad.
Then came another huge plate of Sesame Crusted Tuna with Ginger Lemon grass Vegetable Salad that Meghan and I shared.
Delicious! Since I am a ravenous beast of late (hello, mileage increases!), I housed this entire Crying Chocolate dessert (warm chocolate cake with coffee ice cream) and urged others to steer clear or risk being stabbed by fork. Luckily, we ordered a few.
More shenanigans, talking about all of the dumb stuff we’ve done reminiscing and laughing ensued, and my lame responsible ass saw 3:00 a.m. for the first time in, well, probably years.
This did not stop me from waking by 8:00 a.m. the next morning and going for a quick recovery 5 miler, including a trip up the famous Rocky steps at the Philly art museum (really how could I resist?). I love exploring new cities during runs, and I got to see a lot of Philly that we wouldn’t have had time to otherwise.
I also couldn’t resist a quick trip to Reading Terminal Market after my run – I got an Asian pear and an apple from a produce section before realizing my sweaty self needed a shower STAT. I wish I could have spent more time there – it was huge and had so many delicious food options – I want to go back for sure!
Hooray for a great weekend! Can’t wait for Meg’s big day next month.
After going to bed before the sun went completely down last night (4 hours of sleep does not agree with me, fo sho), I’m feelin’ a pretty good this a.m. and enjoyed a spin class at my gym. It felt great to mix up my usual gym routine – this class was HARD (hello, hills!) and the music was great. The leggies certainly thanked me for the XT.
Question: When was the last time you saw 3:00 a.m. ? Do you run when you visit/travel to new places?
