After 16 early morning miles and a five-hour long trip up to Boston on Friday afternoon (dodging Earl along the way), I was in need of some serious refueling upon arrival at my sister’s apartment. Enter some delicious Boston eats.
We were in the mood for pizza, and luckily sister lives within close proximity of one of Boston’s best – Upper Crust pizzeria. This place is has been popular for years, and you can order whatever pizza/topping combination you want.
We decided on whole wheat crust, mozzarella, arugula, mushrooms and tomatoes, and snacked on a green salad while we waited.
Upper Crust is super casual, but they have great service and our pizza was delivered to our table in no time.
So delicious – the sauce on the pizza was super flavorful.
I only had three slices – we had another important stop to make. Enter JP Licks, Boston’s best ice cream spot (in my opinion).
I ordered two scoops of peanut butter hard yogurt and it was amazing.
My sister got cheesecake soft yogurt with raspberries and chocolate chips (I had a taste and it was to die).
I think I got an A in refueling, for sure. Sister and I spent some QT at home in her apartment as hurricane Earl passed through outside and caught up on the latest episode of Jersey Shore (oh c’mon, you watched it too…).
My exhausted ass made it until 10:00 p.m. until I could keep my eyes open no longer. I’m definitely noticing more sleepiness as the miles ramp up – must work on getting more sleep!
I was up early the next morning to get in an easy 5 mile recovery run before heading to New Hampshire for my pal Meghan’s wedding festivities – I ran up Beacon Street to the Charles River and did a quick loop back to my sis’s apartment.
Back when I lived in Boston (almost four years ago now, ah!) I ran down by the Charles almost every day – almost forgot how much I love it! It’s no Central Park, but definitely one of the top city running spots I’ve experienced. Boston has a great running community, and you know, that marathon they have each April 🙂
Breakfast followed per usual, Kashi Heart to Heart, mixed berries and skim milk.
And some Starbucks was essential to kick off the journey to New Hampshire (enjoyed while on the slowest subway ever in the history of life T).
Upon arriving in New Castle, NH, I was greeted with this view from my posh hotel room balcony – a perfect day for a wedding!
Meghan was the most beautiful bride, and everything went off without a hitch (ok, minus the bee buzzing around in Meg’s bouquet during the ceremony!).
Let’s hear it for some delicious wedding fare.
The apps: corn chowder and salad with greens, carrots and a breaded goat cheese ball in the middle
For the main event, seared halibut with a mashed potato, asparagus and carrots
Amy’s choice also deserves some love – filet mignon and lobster tail (it was tasty – thanks, Ame!)
Amy and I
Of course, I was also looking forward to the cake all day…
I failed to snap a photo before gobbling it up, so the after-dinner plate-o-sweets will have to suffice.
My God I’m cool.
The rest of the evening consisted of everyone dancing like fools and celebrating Meghan and Dan to the fullest – congrats guys!
Weekend recap part 2 coming soon (including a fab progression run in NH and a delicious dinner party prepared by my sis!).
Question: How was your Labor Day??
The best part of a wedding is dancing like a fool 🙂 And the food of course. Though I must admit, the food you had outside of the wedding looked scrummy as well. I totally want to try that froyo shop. You had the option of hard or soft yogurt? Um…jealous.
Yes, you’re right, I did watch Jersey Shore 🙂
No shame 🙂
I love your dress and your pose. That is MY pose! You’re free to borrow it though. Glad you had a fab weekend…I haven’t been to Boston in years and would love to return. Soon!
I just found your blog. I love it.
We are both training for a marathon but my miles aren’t there yet.
I have a love /hate relationship with eating food as well during training. I feel like i dont’ stop eating 🙂
Can’t wait to read more.
