As I sit here on Monday night, I’m finding myself wishing once again for an extra day in the week. Or at least a couple hours…
How do weekends go by so much faster than weekdays?
I even took Monday off to hang with my (twin) sister, who was in town visiting from Boston for the long weekend.
We had many things on our agenda, mainly involving shopping and eating. She was also kind enough to allow me to do a quick 16 miler on Saturday morning before Day 1 of our shopping excursion.
The goal for this run was some “fast finish” marathon pace miles, and I managed an average 8:35 pace for miles 10-14 and felt great. So 16.12 miles in 2:25:26.
During this run I felt a little pain kind of on the outside of my lower calf – maybe a couple inches diagonal above the ankle bone, but not the Achilles, so like in between the Achilles and the upper ankle (ya followin’ that?).
Not here or here so much, but right here…
Hehe, trying to describe where the leg hurts reminds me of this classic scene from Tommy Boy.
Anyway, it went away about halfway through the run, but then continued to bug me enough on Saturday and Sunday to stress me out a tad. I turned Sunday into an XT day on the spin bike instead of a recovery run.
Needless to say, it’s making me nervous. I’m convinced it’s some kind of muscle strain, and I’ve been icing, lightly massaging and stretching. It’s feelin’ a little better today (thanks sister, for making me take a rest day!), and even though this week was supposed to be high in mileage before taper, I may need to cut back a bit. I’m just crossing my fingers it feels A-ok tomorrow.
I tried not to let this get to me (am I the only one that gets super stressed when injuries happen at times like this?) so sister and I could enjoy our weekend.
We shopped ’till we dropped, and were well-fueled by ginormous salads from the Whole Foods salad bar for lunch
As well as some pomegranate fro-yo from Bloomingdale’s Forty Carrots restaurant
We were a little bummed that the peanut butter flavor was not on tap that day, but we got over it 🙂
And dinner at Craftbar
Spanish octopus with chorizo, cranberry bean and lemon greek yogurt
My entrée – branzino and ratatouille
Sister’s entrée – goat cheese ravioli, black mission fig and honeyed onion
Dessert was a brownie with hot fudge, cookies and cream ice cream and whipped cream, and was devoured before a proper photo could be taken 🙂
Sister (also called Melissa) had been dying to go to Eataly, so we hit it up on Sunday night and ate at the pizza/pasta restaurant. We had to wait about 30 minutes, which wasn’t too bad compared to the other restaurants (seafood, steakhouse) which were an hour or more.
Plus we really wanted pizza.
With eggplant, tomato, basil and peppers (me)
And mushroom, artichoke, ham and olive (sister)
Probably the best pizza I’ve ever had – especially the crust – chewy, crunchy perfection.
Although the waitress told us the pies were designed for one person, neither of us could finish them (it did take some restraint – soo good!).
Me and Sister.
She left this afternoon and I haz a sad. Being twins, we’ve pretty much always been around each other our whole lives (plus 8 months in the womb, if you will). We’re very close and visit each other often, but still not often enough. Methinks she needs to move down here stat, and since I am a full 8 minutes older, she should listen to me, right? 🙂
And, just looking at this photo of myself makes me feel tired…
This homegirl is going to bed early tonight – bring on the (short, thank goodness) week!
Question: Do you have any siblings? Are you close?
