Q: “What time is it?”
A: “Game time – WOO!”
Please excuse the reference to an old Sports Illustrated commercial circa 1995. 🙂
But it’s game time! The NYC Marathon is tomorrow. TOMORROW! HOORAY!
This training cycle, which essentially began in January 2010, has been the best experience I’ve had. Especially the last 4-5 months of really hard work. I never, ever thought I’d get this far without becoming injured, developing some kind of rare disease, cheating death, getting hit by a bike, bus or cab… you get the picture.
I guess you could say that the rare disaster seems to like me, and luck isn’t always on my side (except for the whole cheating death thing – THAT is a whole ‘nother story). Because of this, I am so, so thankful the powers that be decided this was indeed my year to run the race like no other (finally!).
I’m just as thankful – and amazed – for the number of things I’ve learned during this training cycle (stay tuned for a detailed, post-marathon post!).
Meantime, I paid a little visit to the expo on Friday and picked up this guy…
And it was oh so sweet 🙂
Here’s the planned clothing for race day, which will be chilly. The plan is a TON of layers until right before we get into the corrals. Here’s hoping it works!
And here’s the loot I scored from the gigantic Asics selection (including an official marathon jacket – hooray!):
Another visit to the expo is planned today, along with a lot of QT with mom and sister, who are in town to spectate the race!
So I’m going to leave you my favorite quote form the great Kathrine Switzer:
“Running gives us everything.”
True dat. 🙂
Good luck to everyone running this weekend – we will all kick epic amounts of ass!
