The studio itself was lovely – clean, upscale, nice employees. As I threw my stuff into a locker and opened the door to the studio, I was feelin’ good.
Then the heat of the room hit me. I mean, I knew that Bikram yoga meant doing yoga in 90-100 degree temps, but holy lord! It was so hot in there (and, umm, kind of smelly) – I wanted to run for the hills. But I didn’t. And when the class began, I was already dripping wet.
During some easy poses I actually had to stop and rest – I felt SO DIZZY and out of sorts from the sweating and heat. I couldn’t stop thinking to myself: “I just ran a marathon less than two weeks ago, and I can’t get myself through a yoga class? WTF??”
But I didn’t quit, and it did get slightly better. So I’m proid to say I
suffered endured the full 90 minutes of my first Bikram yoga class, and downed a coconut water as soon as I got the chance to replace lost electrolytes.
Seriously, the sweating was so major homegirl looked like she just jumped out of a pool.
My thoughts on the class? Welp, it wasn’t super hard, just hot. I can’t say I enjoyed it, but the instructor assured me the first time was the hardest, and my body was getting rid of toxins more rapidly than it would in future classes, which is why I felt so awful.
Since I’m definitely not a giver-upper, I shall try, try Bikram again either this afternoon or Monday morning.
When I got home from class on Saturday, I inhaled some overnight oats in a jar:
- Crunchy natural peanut butter (only a bit left over in the jar)
- Greek yogurt
- 1/2 cup oats
- Almond milk
- Sliced pear
Noms. This was my first forray into overnight oats (which is all the rage in the blog world), and I was quite pleased! The texture is doughy and delicious, and the oats soak up the milk, yogurt and pumpkin perfectly overnight.
I spent the rest of the day studying as usual, sticking to my plan and was actually quite productive – win! Less than a month and this
terrible, no good, very bad busy semester will be over.
Dinner was some serious brain food – grilled wild salmon, sweet potato, cauliflower, bell peppers over romaine lettuce with sage and rosemary
Today will be day number two of study-till-my-eyes-feel-like-they’re-going-to-pop-out-of-my-head. Happy Sunday, all!
Question: Ever tried Bikram yoga? What your first class awful? How can I get myself jazzed for another class?
