First race of 2011 = DONE!
First PR of 2011 = DONE!
I’d say we’re off to a good start.
Because of the storm that wasn’t on Friday, NYRR postponed the Fred Lebow 5 miler from Saturday to Sunday, so I kinda had to re-jigger the weekend training plan. Here’s how it went down:
- Saturday: 6 miles easy
- Sunday: 4.5 miles easy warm-up, 5 mile race, 1.65 miles easy cooldown
The plan worked well, even though I woke up to 15 degree windchills on Sunday (yikes!).
Pre-race banana and PB
I timed my warm-up so I would make it to the start with little time to stand around, and met up with Lindsey. We only had to stand around for a few minutes, but it was freeeeeezing!
When the race started, I was a little iffy about how the legs were feelin’, but they pepped right up and I actually felt great throughout the race. Here are the stats:
- Mile 1: 8:58
- Mile 2: 8:58
- Mile 3: 8:54
- Mile 4: 8:56
- Mile 0.5: 9:17
- Mile 1: 8:03
- Mile 2: 7:35
- Mile 3: 7:38
- Mile 4: 7:51
- Mile 5: 7:32
- Mile 6 (cooldown): 8:39
- Mile 7 (cooldown): 8:47
So 11.15 miles in 1:33:51 – a decent effort for my first official week of marathon training! My official race time was 38:43, 7:44/mile, which is a little shy of a one minute PR. I’ll take it!
When I got home I refueled with some Barbara’s Shredded Oats and Spoonfuls with blueberries, cinnamon and almond milk after a much-needed hot shower…
And had a few cupsa’ decaf while I played with my new Macbook Air (which is bananas amazing!)…
And got ready to meet Sofia for brunch, which was also bananas amazing (because she is awesome!) – stay tuned for a recap.
I’m keeping track of my marathon training here if you want to check it out.
Hope everyone had a great weekend!
Question: Do you race in the cold? Do you tweak your warm-up in chilly weather? I warmed up for longer than usual, which helped keep me fairly warm until the start.
