Hope everyone is having a good week! Mine has been stellar – I’ve had some fun things planned that have kept me busy and helped lift the funk from last week.
On Tuesday, I started the day with my first post-Achilles injury tempo run.
GUH. This was a rough one – I had hopes of steady 7:30 – 7:40s for 4 tempo miles, but the legs were just not having it. I think lack of sleep and some stomach troubles the past couple of days (i.e., not enough fuel!) really affected me during this run. Regardless of the sub-par pace, the effort felt hard, so I guess that counts for something, eh?
Breakfast was devoured – Kashi Heart to Heart with berries and almond milk
Even though I was exhausted by 8:00 a.m. (never a good sign), I had fun plans with Tracy to look forward to after work – cheering on the Bronx Bombers at Yankee Stadium on the most gorgeous spring evening we could have asked for!
And spending a small fortune on beer and Cracker Jacks, naturally.
I heart me a good ball game at Yankee Stadium, and even though the Yanks lost (I swear, I’m bad luck), catching up with Tracy made the trip well worth it. The night was so reminiscent of summer – I can’t wait for shorts, beach time, more ball games and outdoor/rooftop dining and drinking.
And I can’t forget – a break from school! I’ve decided to take the summer off from classes and focus on volunteering at a few NYC-area hospitals to get some needed clinical experience and beef up my application for the next round of dietetic internship submissions. I’m really looking forward to working with some great RDs and learning more about what they go through on a daily basis.
That’s all I got tonight, but coming up on the blog:
- Why fat is good
- My television debut (!?)
- A Mexican-themed recipe
YAYYY!!!
Honestly, it was so much fun. We must do it again – definitely getting together, and hopefully another baseball game!
Running in the summer is great. I love seeing the dreary weather perk up. Long days are my favourtie
I love baseball games!!! And overpriced beer is always par for the course:) I’m glad the running is going well and that you have made a positive decision regarding your summer plans. Experience is always highly valued! Any good hospitals in your area? I’m thinking about relocating….you are in the city, correct? Talk soon 🙂
yep, in the city. There are TONs of great hospitals here – I say make the move!
I’m heading to the sox saturday! Cant wait!!! Great job on your tempo. I need to force myself to do those next training circuit. I am a winter runner- hot weather makes it hard for me to run!
I’m so jealous you had good weather for the game!
We got rained out today.
Boooo…
i definitely think of tempo runs as ALWAYS a great idea but sometimes you have to go with where you are at that day. i do like the idea of pushing hard, but if it’s going to break the overall run then pushing hard for a mile, then easing up, then hitting it again is an awesome option. i really like that one. especially as i’m getting back into training. right now all i’m doing is trying to push hard for 1 mile when i decide to add intensity 🙂 gotta start somewhere.
A television debut? Thats awesome! And I never do tempo runs right no worries.
Sounds like a great time! I can’t remember the last time I went to a baseball game. It was definitely before I was legally old enough to drink beer!
Your summer plans sound awesome! I’m taking one class and continuing with the work and volunteer stuff, and you know, maybe trying to have a little much-needed fun too…
much-needed fun! I can’t forget that… 🙂
yay tempos. well not tempos per se but definitely good hard quality workouts. i think effort totally counts for a lot more than we give ourselves credit for.
i’m looking forward to leaving work and still having the sun be up. that is going to be HEAVEN.
good for you for taking the summer off! you will feel so refreshed. it is totally worth it 🙂
i love picnics. like, a little too much. can’t wait to have my first within the next few weeks!
Go yankees!! (Sorry just had to say that 🙂 )
Definitely give your legs some time with those quicker tempo paces. It will take a little bit of time to work up to that again but it will come, don’t worry.
My favorite thing about summer is weekend trips, the ocean, the farmer’s markets, and the berries in season!
I have yet to go to a baseball game but my parents already went to some Marlins games. It just gets really really hot here 😦
I too had a rough tempo run tonight. I think it’s sleep and stomach, just like you haha. My fave thing about summer is just taking advantage of all this great place has to offer. Every time I walk through Central Park or sit by the river or eat outside at a coffee shop, I just feel lucky to be here!
I love dinners outside in the summer! There is something so wonderfully laid back about it.
I can’t wait until this weather stabilizes so that I can once again enjoy dinner on the patio, playing tennis, and having my windows open!
I definitely think a hard effort is most important! You’ll get back to your pace in no time. Being able to do that first tempo run post-injury is a big step – so congrats! 🙂
And I love going to baseball games. I don’t have as much patience for watching them on TV (unless it’s high stakes) but there’s just something so festive about actually being at the ballpark…and it makes it feel like summer, for sure!
I have such a hard time running tempos in the morning. My legs never want to move! Great job getting out for yours! I am sure your speed will be making a comeback soon!
I love how light it stays at night in the summer. I get off work at 8, and I could still see a tiny glimmer of sunset last night!
Looks like lots of fun! My favorite thing about summer is just travelling in general!
You did a great job on your tempo! I am really excited for summer. Being a teacher makes summer pretty fun. Living in RI means lots of beach days! I’m also really excited about summer races, plans with friends, and ice cream…always ice cream!
I just thought to myself – “who are the bronx bombers?” I live here, I swear. I had no idea you were a Yankees fan! 😉 beach, baseball, and outdoor nyc fun is what I’m looking forward, too! you, susan, and I need to enjoy some of the last one together some time!! 😀 I’m glad you’re taking the summer off to volunteer – I’m sure it will be difficult but it actually sounds like a lot of fun to me. Are you doing any children’s hospitals? (I’m not even sure if NY has any…) Sounds crazy, but after I got surgery when I was 17 it has been up there on something I always wanted to do, but I was always missing the deadlines to sign up.
