Greetings from sunny LA!
I’ve come to the conclusion that taking regular vacations is good for the soul. My wallet may be silently screaming at me, but my soul is extremely grateful.
I can count on a few fingers the times I’ve taken actual vacations in my life – my family was not the vacationing type, and through college and the post-college working world I never really seemed to make the time or set aside the funds necessary to take any big trips.
I have no idea what I was thinking.
Relaxation. The feeling of not having to rush off anywhere, get certain things done and stress out about basically everything. My heart felt so warm and fuzzy. It was like a light bulb going off in my head:
“Oooooh, so this what is all this vacation fuss is about!”
I’m glad to have had such great excuses to explore the left coast (Darby getting married!), and am making it much more of a priority to try to get out of my NYC bubble more often. Well, once my wallet recovers from my Cali adventures, that is.
To help save a few bucks on this trip, I hit up a local grocery store that was within walking distance of my hotel (homegirl doesn’t drive, remember? Especially not in LA – disaster would ensue.) for some staples.
Strawberries, prepared veggies, yogurt, hummus, grapes, bananas and lots of water
I stored this stuff in a little fridge in my hotel room – perfect for snacking and breakfasts!
This morning I ran a very hilly 7.65 miles through Calabasas, which is a gorgeous ‘burb of LA (and home to the Kardashian’s. Sadly, that is all I know about this town…).
Breakfast – Greek Gods yogurt, strawberries, and some crumbled homemade granola bar
Last evening was spent celebrating Darby and her
fiance husband, Artin, at their rehearsal dinner and enjoying delicious Persian fare.
And I wore heels! Only for Darby 🙂
On today’s agenda: sun and a wedding. And I can’t wait.
Question: Do scope out grocery stores when traveling or on vacation? What are your staples? And, how often do you wear heels? This would be my first time in, ehm, months…
