I kind feel guilty this holiday weekend – I’ve taken so many vacation days recently, I almost feel like I don’t deserve another long weekend.
It sure is nice to have some extra time for relaxing, fun-having and catching up with my old friend NYC. And good lord, does my apartment need cleaning.
I started the holiday weekend with my long run and was out the door by about 6:15 a.m. – partly because I’m crazy and can’t sleep in, and partly because it was going to be pretty steamy outside and I like to beat the heat.
I’d say that waking up before the sun on the weekends is not my favorite part of marathon training, but I kind of like it. Central Park and Riverside Park are different places in the early hours, before they get totally crowded and congested with tourists and other city dwellers.
Anyways, the run went well and I kept a fairly steady, easy pace throughout.
I refueled with an appropriately patriotic looking breakfast – Ezekiel cinnamon raisin toast, peanut butter, raspberries and blueberries
Despite having a decent run, I’ve been feeling a little under the weather this weekend (horrible timing, self.). It feels like just a cold, but it’s annoying and I hate not feeling 100%. I’ve been trying to stick to my plans and pretend like I’m not sick, but it caught up with me by Saturday night. After spending too many hours in the sun, I was totally exhausted. Despite all of the carefree, long weekend fun going on in NYC, all I wanted was a restful evening in.
I know. Womp, womp.
So I cooked dinner – grilled steak with fresh dill, asparagus and sweet potato fries
I rarely eat red meat, but this being the 4th of July and all kind of inspired me. Plus sometimes I just crave a large hunk of beef more than anything – maybe it’s my body making sure I get enough iron!
After dinner, I settled in to watch a movie – Marley and Me – that I’ve always wanted to see.
Oh, geez. I’m lucky I had tissues on hand for my already stuffy nose.
I’ve been thinking about mid-year goals and fine-tuning my marathon training plan, so stay tuned for an update soon!
Hope everyone is having a great holiday weekend!
Question: When you’re feeling a little under the weather, do you baby yourself or power through it like nothing’s wrong? I usually opt for the ladder, but sometimes it catches up with me!
